S1/S2 Mathematics
The aim of the first and second year Mathematics course is to help pupils:
- to understand the nature and purpose of mathematics;
- to acquire skills in mathematical thinking, concepts, facts and techniques;
- to develop confidence in using and applying mathematics in a variety of contexts.
The course follows the ‘Maths in Action’ scheme throughout secondary 1 and 2.

Knowledge and Understanding and Reasoning and Enquiry are assessed by a written examination, set and marked by SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority).
Each element counts for 50% of the overall award. Question papers are offered at three levels: Foundation, General and Credit, with a calculator and non-calculator paper at each level. Pupils normally attempt the question papers at the two levels best suited to their ability.

- Some excellent resources on Maths Investigations and problem solving activities, try them with your kids but don’t expect to win too often!

- The pupils can work their way through this from their level upwards.
- The school has licenses for them from 8.00am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Pupils know their login details.
- If you want to use it after 4.30pm it will cost you but it’s cheaper than a Ferrari, (A Big Red Box!)
