Course Outlines
Standard Grade Home Economics
This course is about life skills. It builds on the knowledge and understanding of everyone's need for food, clothing and shelter. A main aim of the course is the development of the practical skills associated with food preparation.
Food for Health
This short course is designed as an introduction to healthy eating. Pupils gain a knowledge and understanding of the Scottish dietary targets for the year 2005 and the functions of the main nutrients. Practical work is included to prepare healthy dishes which suit the needs of specified individuals.
The Pre-school Child: Food, Clothing and Play
This short course involves studying small children aged 0-5 years. Pupils may be given the opportunity to sit a first aid certificate and will be asked to make a meal for a small child, assess clothing suitable for small children and will be required to design and make a toy or game for the child.
